Floor Preparation Process

We offer two main floor preparation services, diamond grinding and shot blasting. These services are critical to creating a level of service that is prepared for the chemical bonding required for the coating of your choice. Diamond grinding thoroughly corrects the irregularities commonly found in concrete, like excessive roughness, pits, divots, and flaking. Diamond grinding is a great way to prepare your floor without lowering its durability.

Shot blasting is a resurfacing technique that shoots metal beads out of a machine to blast away debris and contaminants. This provides a much more powerful clean because of the size and speed of the pellets.

This creates a result similar to sandblasting. Unlike diamond grinding, this is not used to level the floor. Instead, it removes paint or old epoxy to create a bare surface.

The thickness of your coating depends on the preparation method you use for your concrete. For urethane and epoxy, diamond grinding is often used for optimal results. Shot blasting is used for coatings that are more than 1/16”.

Concrete Removal FAQ

Concrete removal can be overwhelming and time-consuming if you don’t know what to expect. Here are the answers to frequently asked questions about concrete removal:

Should I repair or remove the concrete?

  • It may be easier to repair if your concrete has sunken from heavy equipment or has thin cracks. You should consider removal if it has multiple cracks that are wide or deep, if it’s settled because of improper preparation, or has experienced a frost heave.

How much does it cost to remove concrete?

  • The removal cost depends on the concrete’s depth and its square footage. For example, a typical driveway costs about $2,000 to remove.

Can demolished concrete be recycled?

  • Yes, concrete can be crushed and reused to create new cement if your area has a recycling facility that accepts concrete.

How do you remove concrete?

  • Depending on the location of your concrete, we may use a jackhammer or machine with a breaker to remove the concrete. Once the concrete is broken, we’ll hall it away.
